Just a few decades ago, heading to a coffee shop was more like a trip to a diner. You were heading in for a quick and inexpensive breakfast or lunch, and not looking for electric outlets and comfy chairs to set up camp in for several hours.
These days, coffee shops focus on the coffee and a place to work or socialize for a while.
Revelator Coffee in Downtown Atlanta
Atlantans now have two more options when it comes to their coffee or tea fix. Revelator, which also owns Octane) opened downtown at 101 Marietta Street. It specializes in roasting its beans in or near its shops and using local dairy and other products.
Docent Coffee on Edgewood Ave SE
You may already be familiar with Docent Coffee as its barista carts have been regulars at various Atlanta events. Docent now has a brick and mortar location at 381 Edgewood Ave. SE and is open every day except Monday. This café showcases local artists and serves breakfast and lunch. But, plan to go early as it closes at 3 pm, even on weekends.

Birmingham-based Revelator Coffee opened its newest location earlier this month at 101 Marietta St., featuring a variety of coffee drinks and food items.
In addition, Docent Coffee made its debut earlier this month in Old Fourth Ward at 381 Edgewood Ave. SE, in the space previously occupied by Cafe + Velo.
