Breddos Tacos

Breddos Tacos is modelled after roadside taquerias in Mexico and America. But we don’t think that’s giving this Clerkenwell gem enough credit. You’ll probably agree that Breddos is something special.

Let’s start with the starters, and you’ll see what we mean. While you can order some traditional Mexican favourites, including Guacamole and Queso Fundido, other goodies will surely whet the appetite. How about Tuna Tostada, Tamarind Chicken Wings, or Papas with Garlic Crema and Wild Honey.

Unique Tacos

The tacos are also outstanding. You might like Smoked Aubergine with Halloumi and Garlic Crema or Cacklebean Egg, Oyster Mushroom, and Mole.

Yes, it’s a chain, but worthy of attention, nonetheless, as Wahaca really is a quality London Mexican restaurant.

Wahaca is all about fresh food, unique combinations, and an upbeat and friendly ambience.

Small Plates, Big Taste

We recommend going with a group and ordering as many small plates as you can fit on your table. The “Mexican tapas” includes Plantain, Slow-Cooked Brisket, and Sustainable Battered Fish Tacos. You might also enjoy the Cheese and Chilli Croquetas with Tomatillo Apple Salsa and the Crispy Cauliflower Bites with Roast Jalapeno Aioli.

Oh, and our favourite cocktail? The Hibiscus Margarita. We challenge you to drink just one!

Madera at Treehouse London

14-15 Langham Place, London, W1B 2QS

When looking for great food and views, turn to Madera in the Treehouse Hotel. The prices aren’t over the top, especially for a hotel-based Mexican restaurant in London. But it’s upscale Mexican fare.

Madera’s signature dishes are served over hot lava stones. Options include Free-Range Chicken, King Prawns, Organic Grass-Fed Carne Asada, and Harissa Octopus. Each comes with Tortillas, Rice, and Beans, and none is over £40 – unless you add freshly shaved black truffle!

There are plenty of vegetarian options at Madera, like Vegan Ceviche and Mexican Fattoush salad. Regardless of what you order for your entrée, consider starting with Guacamole, as Madera’s is next-level with Pomegranate Seeds and Lime Pepitas.

Homies on Donkeys

98 Wood Street – Wood Street Indoor Market, London, E17 3HX

Hip hop music, graffiti-filled walls, and downright delicious tacos are the trademarks of Homies on Donkeys. And, if you recall the name, it’s probably because this Mexican Taqueria pops up on many “best of” lists.

The menu is short and is entirely taco-focused. But, you know that keeping it simple is sometimes the best in London Mexican restaurants, as it is in this case.

Just £3!

Two tacos are either £7 or £9, depending on your choice of Cochinito in Chipotle, Chicken in Adobo, Soy al Pastor, or Camaron Enchilado. And, where else can you get Chips and Guac for just £3?

You can sit in or do takeaway, but get to Homies on Donkeys before 4:30 pm, as it’s only open from 12 pm to 5 pm. Short menu, short hours, it’s like an exclusive club without the red carpet!
