Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas In the UK – They Also Work In the US, Too!

Mother’s Day in the UK is fast approaching.

With the big day coming up, you might want to start thinking about what you can do to give the mother figure in your life a special day. I’m going to provide you with a few ideas to help you along the way. Every Mother deserves a special day just for them. But how do we accomplish it?

Hmm… something unique and meaningful. What to do, what to do?

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas – Favourites That Always Work

Let’s start with a few oldies but goodies. They’re standbys that you may not have opted for in a few years. So, revisiting an older tradition might be just the ticket for Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day Dinner, Brunch, Lunch, Snack?

The first suggestion is to take them out for a meal.

This seems to be the go-to thing in the UK, as venues all over the country offer enticements.

Don’t forget the reservation

With Mother’s Day always being on a Sunday, maybe you could book a table somewhere. The family gets to spend time with Mum, and she doesn’t have to be responsible for planning, cooking, or cleaning.

Your Mother will love a BOGOF offer just as much as she’d enjoy afternoon tea at The Ritz. The main enjoyment will be that she is with you.

Mother's Day flowers, Mother's Day gift ideas

Mother’s Day Flowers – YOU design!

Our second suggestion is another popular one, so I’m not telling you anything new. But if it’s been a while since you’ve hit the florist, then maybe it’s time to revisit one.

Mothers Day = flowers, at least it used to be for quite some time.

Buy your Mum a bunch of her favourites (if you don’t know them, try and find out without asking her) and surprise her on the day with them. Or, pick out a plant. It’ll last longer, and she’ll think of you when she cares for it.

Trust me. She’ll love it!

Mother’s Day Gift Tips: Floral Arrangements

  1. Most retailers hike prices up on flowers for events such as Mother’s Day. So, be on your guard, and check around as you can still get them for the usual price. Supermarkets are bound to have some affordable yet beautiful options.
  2. You could also buy a plant in a pretty pot and then add some flowers to give it some zing and wrap a big, colourful bow around the container to tie it all together.

The Mother’s Day Gift of Pampering – for one or two?

The fourth idea for your consideration is to book a spa day for two.

The actual spa appointment can be for a date to suit your Mum. But by booking a spa day for two, you get to go with her. So, it will allow you to spend some good quality time together, relaxing, and without the hustle and bustle of everyday life getting in the way of things.

If you wanted to go one step further, you could book an overnight stay too so you can enjoy the little things for even longer.

Mother’s Day Gift Tips: Show Tickets

  1. If you plan ahead and scour Groupon or other daily deal websites, you may even be able to stretch your gift budget much farther than you think. These types of services specialize in discounted tickets.
  2. You can also bookmark our London Events Calendar that provides all kinds of entertainment ideas – large and small.

Mother’s Day Gift of Entertainment

third suggestion from me to you is to book cinema tickets, or perhaps even theatre or other show tickets for your Mum.

If your Mum is a fan of films, pantomimes, or other live entertainment, then this will be a great treat for her. Dust off your glad rags, and take her out to enjoy a performance. A matinee on THE day would be quite ideal! You’ll be able to find a list of events taking place on the day through a simple Google search.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas – They Work, Even If You Live in Different Locations

Maybe you’re not down the street from your Mother or even in the same city. If so, coming up with something special can be a bit more challenging. But, I’ve got a few suggestions that may resonate.

Entertainment at Home

Enhance your Mother’s television with a new streaming service like Netflix or Amazon Prime. For something really special, Disney+ is launching in the UK on 2o March, 2020. So, you’re assured that Mum won’t have it yet, unless she’s been waiting by the computer for the big premiere.

You could also buy a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. It all depends on what’s missing from her collection.

Mother’s Day Gift Tip: Take it to the next level

If your Mum is a bit older, buy something with voice recognition rather than making your Mother learn a whole new system. Then, take the time to teach her how to use it. If you’re not going to be together, then do a video chat and walk her step by step through the setup and operation.

Your help may be the very best part of the gift!

Revisit the Past

Is there something that your Mother used to be passionate about, but doesn’t do anymore? Maybe she loved painting or jewelry making? Perhaps your Mum loves baking but hasn’t done much of it lately.

Take one of her old hobbies, and make it new again through your Mother’s Day gift.

You could buy your Mother canvas and paints or a gift certificate for a painting class. How about a cake decorating class or basket of supplies? Use what you already know about your Mother to build a one-of-a-kind gift that you know she’ll love, instead of trying to introduce her to something new.

One-of-a-Kind Mother’s Day Gifts on Etsy

If you’re not familiar with Etsy, it’s an online marketplace of custom, handmade items, as well as vintage pieces.

Etsy is an excellent resource for unique Mother’s Day gifts, as you can find one-of-a-kind jewelry and other items. There are so many options, and they’re things that you won’t find on the High Street or your local shopping centre.

Mother’s Day Gift Tip: Etsy

If you’re interested in shopping on Etsy, you’ll want to make your purchase as far in advance as possible. Etsy features sellers from around the world, and shipping may take a few weeks, depending on the location of the artisan or vendor.

a letter for Mum, Mother's Day letter

Free Mother’s Day Ideas – No, We’re Not Including a Coupon Book of Hugs!

So far, the ideas we have put forward all cost money in some form, but if you’re looking for a less expensive, and possibly free (in terms of money, at least) gift for your Mum then read on.

Create a slide show or a book of memories

What sentimental Mother wouldn’t love this?

A slide show or book of your favourite moments and memories from years gone by is the traditional way of putting something together. But, you could also take a different approach and share some of your world that’s new to your Mum. You could share your favorite recipes, hobbies, personal photos, and other aspects of your life.

I’m sure that whichever way you were to approach this, it will definitely tug at the heartstrings and be a memorable gift that will never be forgotten!

a letter for Mum, Mother's Day letter

Write a letter

This might take a lot of thought and planning to ensure you get it right. However, if you’re good with words, then why not write your Mother a letter?

Let your Mum know why you are grateful she is yours, or what things you have learned from her over the years. You can tell her exactly how you feel about her and what she’s done for you since you appeared in her world. A guaranteed tear-jerker (for all the right reasons), and something that doesn’t cost anything. This gift is truly priceless.

Be Your Mum For the Day

Swap roles. Take on all of the tasks your Mum has on her typical to-do list. Does she usually cook breakfast for the rest of the family? You do it.

Does she usually cook a roast dinner for the family on a Sunday?

Grab your apron, as it’s now your responsibility.

If you don’t live in the same house, you can make dinner from your kitchen and pack it up for homemade takeaway. After all, you should make the trip and let Mum stay cozy and comfortable in her own home.

Does she usually clean the house top to bottom?

Guess what? It’s your job today.

This kind of gesture may not require money changing hands, but it could be appreciated more than a gift box. It will give your Mother the chance to relax, put her feet up, and enjoy a bit of time to herself without having to worry about not getting her usual tasks completed.

Everyone deserves a rest now and then, don’t they?

It’s a (Mother’s Day Gift) Wrap!

Whatever you decide to do for your Mum on Mother’s Day, it is guaranteed to be a hit, and it most definitely will be appreciated. Your Mum will love the fact that you’ve thought about her and have done something to make the day extra special for her.

A last reminder, too, as we know, there are those of you who will forget – DON’T FORGET A MOTHER’S DAY CARD TO ACCOMPANY YOUR GIFT(S)! She can keep it, along with your macaroni necklace and clay handprint!
