Summer is approaching and “things to do” is always a hot topic. In the Tampa Bay area, the Tampa Theatre, AMC, Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, and Regal Cinemas, are just a few of the venues you can count on to fit the bill.

Movies are always a good choice as they keep the kids entertained, and there’s always something for all ages. Not only do area theatres have plenty on their schedules, but many events are discounted, putting the cherry on top of the sundae.

AMC Summer Kids Series

AMC Theatres are offering a Wednesday morning Summer Kids Series from June through August. For $4.00, junior moviegoers receive their ticket and a Kids Pack with snacks and drinks. Both the Palm Harbor and Central Ybor locations are participating. For more info, you can check out AMC’s Summer Movie Camp page.

A beloved local landmark

While the Tampa Theatre has a long list of summer events that are just part of the 600 or more that it offers each year, we thought it would be interesting to share a bit more information about this local landmark.

The Tampa Theatre was built in 1926 and a quarter would get you a ticket to the plush entertainment venue. In 1973, it was nearly demolished but the community rallied and saved the beloved theatre. Since then, Fodor’s has designed it as one of “America’s Best Historic Movie Theatres.”

Balcony to Backstage Tour

In addition to the movies and other shows, there’s a Balcony to Backstage Tour. This summer, that 90-minute experience is scheduled on June 29th, and July 9th and 20th. While the tour is $10 for adults and $8 for kids, members of the Tampa Theatre are on the comp list.

Tampa Theatre membership starts at just $50. Not only do you receive access to the backstage tours for free, but many of event tickets are discounted for members.
