With it coming up to the Christmas season, it’s time to start looking at the annual festive events that take place throughout the UK every year. Of course, we are talking about Christmas markets!
Christmas markets are becoming more popular with each passing year. More and more towns and cities in the country are hosting them. So, please read on as we have some tips regarding which are the best ones to attend if you get the chance.
We shall look at those close to home in London, but also those further afield for those more adventurous souls reading this.
Nine of the Best Christmas Markets in London and Beyond
Leicester Square Christmas Market in London
Situated right in the middle of London’s tourist area, in the West End, is Leicester Square Christmas Marke, one that you simply have to visit.
It offers plenty of great food and gift stalls. There’s always time to stop for a beer. You'll also find a tent called the ‘Spiegeltent,’ where you will be met with performances that could include human jukeboxes, girl bands, drag acts, and firebreathers.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 12 pm to 10 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm
Southbank Centre Winter Festival and Market in London
Another stunning London location. Southbank is situated right on the banks of the Thames and offers fantastic views across to Westminster, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament.
The Christmas Market has the London Eye in the background and gives lots of little wooden huts selling festive delights. Photo exhibitions and performance tents are also on-site for you to enjoy.

Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market - West Midlands
Birmingham Christmas Market is well worth travelling to each year. It is the biggest authentic Christmas Market outside of Germany or Austria.
More than 80 stalls are available for you to browse and enjoy, and you can get a range of traditional items, including pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, gluhwein, weissbier, and hot chocolate. There is a live music programme on Victoria Square to keep you going through your visit.

Bath Christmas Market - Bath
If you want to walk around a winter wonderland based in a historic city, the Bath Christmas Market is an option for you. You can search stalls for gifts, including jewellery, homeware, and decorations.
Bath is a very eco-savvy market, where last year, over 80% of stallholders came from the city itself, and 99% of all products were handmade in Britain or abroad with Fairtrade certification. Whilst here, you can find the ice rink too if you fancy a spot of ice skating, or perhaps a game of glow in the dark golf.

Manchester Christmas Markets - Manchester - Various Locations
With over 300 stalls and chalets situated across the city, you won’t be far away from festive gifts and delicious food and drink.
The Manchester Christmas Market features a trail that you can follow and pick up jewellery, toys, and quirky gifts, amongst other things. You'll visit a variety of markets, including a French market, a German market, an Arts & Crafts Market, and a World Christmas market.
Food served here includes bratwurst, hog roast, paella, and much, much more.

Winchester Christmas Market
Winchester Christmas Market is set with the backdrop being none other than Winchester Cathedral itself. You will find yourself able to look through over 100 stalls selling a range of goods, from food to beer to hot chocolate to crafts. Whilst here, you can also lookout for the Ice Rink and have a relaxing skate around in an amazing and festive atmosphere.
This market is widely known across many countries to be one of the best in Europe.

Victorian Christmas Market - Portsmouth - 3 Days Only!
Be quick if you want to visit this iconic Victorian Christmas Market. Set in the impressive surroundings of Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, this market is only on for three days (29 November – 1 December).
If you’re lucky enough to make it, you will find over 120 market stalls selling a range of festive goods, an opportunity to meet the man himself – Father Christmas – and you’ll also find an array of Victorian Street Performers who help to complete the feel of this event.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt - Millennium Square
You'll find a transformed Millennium Square when you go to this German Christmas Market.
The Leeds Christkindelmarket features 40+ traditionally decorated wooden chalets serving up everything from hand-made jewellery, festive decorations, food, drink, and even a Christmas Carousel!
If you’re feeling extra hungry, you’re catered for too – look out for the Alp Chalet restaurant situated in the centre of the market, which is a Bavarian-style eatery offering traditional food and drink alongside some great entertainment.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland - London
You didn’t think we would forget this one, did you? Winter Wonderland, held at Hyde Park every year, is massive. Every year, holiday revelers come from all over this country and others, specifically for the Hyde Park experience. And, they are not left disappointed by what they find.
One of London’s most spectacular parks is transformed into the Winter Wonderland. You will find one of the world’s tallest transportation observation wheel, a Magical Ice Kingdom, a comedy club, the UK’s largest open-air ice rink, and plenty of bars, food stalls, and a circus act.
There is indeed something for everyone, and it is well worth arriving early to make the most of it. Once you’ve been once, you’ll want to go back time and time again, as it really is that magical.
