Do you know that The Comedy Store in London opened in 1979? And some of the biggest comics in the industry have taken the stage, prompting laughs and the occasional boos.
Eddie Izzard, Robin Williams, Emo Phillips, Steve Coogan – can you imagine catching them up close and personal before they hit the massive theatre circuit? Well, if you didn’t, then head to a comedy club now. Because, in a few years, you might be sharing, “I was front row for him/her for just £20!”

Step Inside a Few London Comedy Clubs
Angel Comedy at The Bill Murray (and Camden Head)
The Bill Murray is billed as a club, pub, and hub. But for this page, we’ll focus on why it’s a top-notch comedy club in London.
Afternoon Shows
Whether you’re looking for an early bird show (let’s say 5 pm) or an evening of laughs, you can turn to the Angel Comedy Club. You’ll be chuckling to yourself all week with some of the funniest headliners in London.
Despite the talented comics, tickets are low, low, low. Many shows are in the £5 range. Chips, two pints, and two tickets, and you have yourself one of the most affordable (and entertaining) date nights in London!
Side Note: Angel Comedy Club also performs at Camden Head.
Backyard Comedy Club
The Backyard promotes “West End Shows at East End Prices.” What else is there to say?
Well, maybe we’ll say a bit more because Backyard Comedy Club at The Backyard in Bethnal Green surprises you with some top comics and some free shows in the mix.
Typical events are somewhere in the £5 to £20 range but check the website for some freebies like “The Comedy Hump” on a Wednesday. And, The Backyard also serves food, yummy drinks, and provides free WiFi and Board Games.
Mic drop.
99 Club Comedy in Leicester Square
If you believe the Chortle Awards, 99 Club Comedy is the Best London Comedy Club, as they designated it Best for ten years running.
But why not decide for yourself? The 99 Club stage features different headliners Tuesday through Saturday, and tickets don’t usually top £20 a piece.
When you’re ready to give it a go, visit the website, as 99 Club Comedy doesn’t sell tickets at the door. Also, keep in mind that drinks are available, but you won’t find a food menu, nor any under 18s.
The Boat Show Comedy Club
We were going to stop at three because we have an entire list of comedy clubs in London below. But comedy on a boat is a novel idea, and we just had to highlight it.
We’d be surprised if you’re not familiar with The Boat Show, as it’s been entertaining for more than 20 years. Top comedians take the stage on a refurbished paddle steamer, setting sail across from the London Eye at Tattershall Castle, Victoria Embankment.
Shows are 18 and over, and if you want to dance the night away afterwards in the nightclub, you need to be at least 21. Visit The Boat Show’s website for all of the questions and answers about this unique venue but give it a try – tickets are less than £20 – and only £6 on Tuesday!
