Step Inside a Few Seattle Comedy Clubs

We’ve got Seattle comedy shows above and a list of comedy clubs below. But, we thought we’d take a peek at a few of the standout venues.

Seattle Comedy Underground

The Seattle Comedy Underground launched more than 40 years ago. Over the years, little-known comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Wright, Marsha Warfield, and Ellen DeGeneres have taken the stage in a more intimate environment. The downtown club at Swannies on S. Washington is 21 and over.

Food is available, and there’s a sister club in Tacoma at the Big Whisky Saloon (100 S 9th St.)

Unexpected Productions

Pike Place Market is much funnier than it could be thanks to Unexpected Productions, Seattle’s longest-running improv theater (since 1982!).

Shows like Shakespeare Unexpected, Best Sellers, and Loose Cannons Improv keep fans coming back week after week. That’s because every performance is different and it’s a super affordable night out (date night anyone?). Tickets are in the $15 range.

Unexpected Productions performs at the Market Theater (Post Alley). Find the famous Gum Wall, and you know you’re there! By the way, teens are welcome, but it’s improv – so you never know what’ll happen!

Here-After

Is it a Seattle comedy club? A movie theater?

Here-After, a 100-seat venue in the Belltown area has a cool vibe (is it ok to describe it that way these days?). You won’t have a bad seat in the house, so it’s an excellent place to catch improv. Sit in the front – if you dare! Tickets average about $15 and, depending on the schedule, you can buy a discounted two-show pack for the same night. This is a 21+ venue.

Seattle doesn’t have as many traditional comedy clubs as many other major markets. However, there are a few standouts, like Laughs Comedy Club, Unexpected Productions, Comedy Underground, and Jet City Improv.

Most of the comedy clubs in the Seattle-Tacoma area are 21 and over. But, if you’re 18, you’re not totally out of luck (or laughs). Unexpected Productions doesn’t have a mandatory age requirement and tries to keep its materials as PG as possible. However, it’s improv, so you never know!
