Saint Anejo

We don’t usually think of “chic” and “Mexican” when it comes to food, but the Gulch-ians have proved us wrong. Saint Anejo, a funky cantina with an inventive menu, is known for blending traditional Mexican treats with other classic favorites like their tasty Tex-Mex burgers with jalapeño poppers.

Whether it’s Huevos Rancheros, Crispy Potato and Chorizo Scramble, or Chile Mole Shrimp Tacos, they know how to put their unique twist on Mexican classics.

However, you can always enjoy the authentic Mexican fare at Saint Anejo and next time you are there, order the house-made guac, and you can thank me later.

Saint Anejo offers a casual dining space as well as an open-air sitting area with a connecting bar and large patio, which really lets you enjoy when the weather is beautiful.

Bartaco Nashville, best Mexican food Nashville

Bartaco

Are you looking for some upscale street tacos for those vacation vibes? Then you’ve got to visit Bartaco.

The place just doesn’t disappoint. I’m a sucker for their super delicious and unique tacos, whether it is the Roasted Duck, Cauliflower, or Falafel. But their pre-meal chips that are gigantic hard corn shells served with a mouth-watering trio of tomatillo salsa, Roja, and guacamole are also “to die for.”

The place is a hot spot. So, if you plan to dine on the weekend, then expect a long wait, especially if you wish to sit on the patio, which I highly recommend.

Taqueria La Juquilita

Taqueria La Juquilita is the sort of place that I would like to keep a secret — just kidding guys (sort of). But seriously, it is the place that will 100% win your heart with the authentic Mexican food in Nashville.

This place has a straightforward exterior, and you can’t call the interior fancy either. But the food, my gosh, the food is incredible!

The menu is quite short, but man, there is not even a single bad item on it. You will even find the soup of the day to be flavorsome there. I guess the short menu and a complete focus is the key to their delicious food, which, thanks to me, isn’t a secret anymore.

Taqueria La Juquilita  * 5913 Morrow Rd., Nashville, TN   *   615-524-9053

Open: Sunday – Thursday 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday 11 am to 8 pm

Fogatas

Drive to the back of a Lowe’s parking lot, and you find this hidden gem with live music (if the night is right). You’ll know that it’s worth the trip when you see the list of Mexican specialties.

The options range from grilled cactus to huitlacoche quesadillas which is a favorite. The dish is made with a yummy fungus (yes, I said it) that grows on corn and is often referred to as “Mexican truffles.” So, next time you’re there, don’t forget to treat yourselves to some fungus.

Fogatas  * 5560 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, TN   *   615-331-6281

Open: Sunday – Saturday – 8 am to 9 pm daily

Mas Tacos Por Favor

Nashville folks rave about their tacos, and rightly so. My favorite at Mas Tacos Por Favor is the cast iron chicken with salsa verde and sour cream and also the fish tacos. But the place offers so much more when it comes to down-to-earth, delicious Mexican food.

Try their amazing chicken tortilla soup, Mexican corn, or the Pozole Verde with its multiple levels of flavors, and you will taste what I am talking about, as unfortunately taste-o-vision hasn’t been invented yet.

This place will have you saying, “Mas tacos por favor!” The best part is that the prices are highly affordable, but be sure to bring cash.

Mas Tacos Por Favor  * 732 McFerrin Ave., Nashville, TN   *   615-543-6271

Open: Monday – Friday 11 am to 9 pm; Saturday 10 am to 9 pm
